Valašské Meziříčí: Children´s audience 
The children's audience is a proven way for the city to regularly discuss with young people their views on the development of the place where they live. At the same time, this is a great way of active cooperation between the city and the school parliaments.

| Describe the main purpose / aim of your activity / project. What were its side effects or secondary results? | The goal of the Children's audience is to give the young generation, represented by the pupils of elementary school parliaments, the opportunity to build a relationship with their city, take an interest in public events and learn to influence it. The children's audience is implemented in cooperation with the city administration by the Domeček Leisure Center, p.o. for more than 30 years. The event takes place regularly in April and is thematically linked to Earth Day. Pupils prepare for the Children's audience in advance in their school parliaments, formulate questions and prepare for a discussion with the city administration and experts on various topics. The main theme of the event is mostly environmentally oriented, but children can discuss any other development topic with city representatives. Course of action: 1) the pupils will be introduced to the city management and expert guests (head of the Department of the Ministry of Environment and Municipal Services, director of the city police, representative of technical services for waste management, Earth Day lecturer and other guests), the speaker of the school parliament will introduce his team . Pupils are introduced to the Healthy City program and the possibilities of their involvement in the development of the city and joint planning, 2) there will be a lecture on an environmental topic that is common to Earth Day - in 2022 it was Zero Waste, 3) a discussion follows, where students ask questions and ask about everything that interests them in various areas of the city's development (environment, education, culture, sports, investments, etc.). A record is taken of the discussion. Pupils learn to debate publicly, formulate ideas, develop their citizenship, take an interest in their city, recognize their role in its development and accept responsibility for it - they learn to understand that they can influence the future of the city themselves. About a hundred students from five elementary schools are participating in the children's audition, mostly eighth and ninth graders." |

| What recommendations / advice can be deduced from the implementation of your activities and provided to other municipalities with a similar intention? | <p>It is necessary to support the functioning of school parliaments and motivate pupils to debate together. The basis is good communication with school management. Every school should have a responsible pedagogue, trained in the leadership of the student parliament. It is possible to participate in national events of school parliaments. The organization of the Children's audition is a great opportunity to connect the school parliaments of individual schools and share experiences.</p> |

| Describe the main strengths of your activity / project during its realization? | The activity is inexpensive, the benefit is the education of children for civic responsibility and the support of their relationship with the city in which they live - it is not about "politics", but about the support of citizenship - democratic citizenship. Children can be honest, creative and have good ideas to draw from. They can describe exactly how they imagine their city, what they dislike or lack in the city, or vice versa, what they like and what is good to continue. |
| During the implementation of the activities / project, did you encounter an event that fundamentally affected the implementation? | The activity of school parliaments was negatively affected by the outage associated with the covid epidemic - however, school parliaments are reviving. |
